Project Objectives
The project utilizes a multifaceted approach to support women in Syria, particularly through the Women’s Advisory Board (WAB) to the Office of the Special Envoy of Syria.
Assess the current conditions affecting women and girls in Syria and identify possible remedies to address them as part of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda.
Provide recommendations and analysis to better guide UN Women, and other stakeholders’ strategic response to issues affecting women and girls in Syria.
Facilitation of WAB dialogues
Outreach support for WAB and women political leaders
Developing a research framework for evidence-based policies for women in Syria
Project Scope of Work
The project combines research, facilitation, and outreach as three pillars to achieve its objectives.
Research
Defining a research methodology and work plan
Gathering and analysing qualitative and quantitative data, including indicators that account for developments at different levels (international, regional, national and local).
Producing a UN Women flagship report which analyzes the situation of Syrian women and girls.
Facilitation and Outreach to support the WAB
Strengthening the legitimacy of WAB and facilitating their participation in Track 1.5 Diplomacy.
Advocacy efforts to promote women's rights and participation in Syria.
Knowledge creation and addressing knowledge needs, focusing on enhancing WAB’s self-awareness, knowledge exchange at the policy level, and understanding women’s conditions on the ground.
Outreach to engage other Syrian women leaders and grassroots actors and expand the WAB’s influence.
The project is an innovative approach to empower Syrian women by enhancing their participation in the political process, developing robust research frameworks to inform policy-making, and strengthening advocacy efforts. It focuses on harnessing the capabilities of the WAB, expanding its outreach, and fostering a better understanding of women’s conditions in Syria through evidence-based research.
