The Aleppo City Development Strategy (or Madinatuna) is a participatory city-vision project for Aleppo, Syria, co-funded by GIZ, World Bank’s Cities Alliance, Aleppo Municipality, and donors from the local community.
Our experts (pre-LUGARIT, from N'N Design Studio) participated in the urban planning of the city's vision for 2025, and provided all communication services for the project.
We participated with a team of local stakeholders and international experts in the research, analysis, and planning of the city's vision for 2025.
The vision sees Aleppo as a city with multiple centers, well connected with a modern, fast and affordable public transport system. Each center has its own character and functions; such as tourism and cultural activities, shopping and entertainment, knowledge and services, or agricultural trade and logistics.
The vision celebrates Aleppo’s distinct neighborhoods, which are home to a mix of old and new urban forms that fit the variety of lifestyles in the city; from the garden villa to the dense city block, from self-built settlements, to new, locally adapted building typologies. Each neighborhood offers services that cover its residents’ daily needs. Each neighborhood is well connected to the city centers through flexible microbus systems.
Aleppo is imagined as a green yet compact and sprawl-free city. The city has green fingers that transport fresh air into the city and that offers residents with a hiatus from the intensity of urban life. The city has a network of green and high-quality public spaces that link its parts together. The city has a multifunctional park along the Quaik River Bed.
We provided all communication services for the project, including:
Developing a communication strategy for involving local communities in the city vision.
Co-organizing participatory planning events and community participation events, including workshops, focus groups, conferences, forums, street events...etc.
Setting up management tools for the volunteering program of the project.
Designing the Project's brand image.
Copywriting, design, and managing production of all print and digital marketing communication materials.
Developing and operating the project's bilingual website, including its online public opinion forum.
Designing and managing implementation of 2 mass media public awareness campaigns.
Supporting launch of 3 mini projects; a kids library, a technical library, and a leadership program.
